  • Taiwan’s population is 23.51 million. The most populous cities being New Taipei City, Taichung, Tainan, Hsinchu and Kaohsiung. New Taipei City being the city where most international businesses are located.

  • Language : Although the official language of Taiwan is Mandarin, most Taiwanese speak Hokkien. Businesses operate in Mandarin and English.

  • Electricity : 120 volts and 60 hertz

  • Housing: Most popular areas in Taipei are Yangmingshan, Tien Mou, Wellington Heights and the Hsin-Yi district (downtown Taipei). Properties are sometimes leased part- or fully-furnished but more commonly unfurnished.
    Most of the landlords prefer a 24 months lease term with first 12 months fixed, and pre-termination after the 12 months with 30 or 60 days notice with 1 month rental as penalty. The security deposit is equivalent to 2 to 3 months rental which shall be refunded in full at the end of the lease after 45 days with conditions.

  • Transportation : A number of private bus companies provide extensive services in Taipei. Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, a train, serves Taipei and its suburbs. Metered taxis are available in Taipei; tipping is not expected, but is starting to come into practice

  • Healthcare : Privately owned Special Clinics (international clinics) have been set up to cater to the English-speaking community. Doctors in these clinics have a greater cultural understanding of Western medicine, and expats will receive a bill translated into English. These facilities can also refer patients to specialists at larger hospitals.

  • Weather : Taiwan is situated off the east coast of Asia and in the path of warm ocean currents, Taiwan enjoys an oceanic and subtropical climate conspicuously influenced by its topography. Summers are long and accompanied by high humidity, while winters are short and usually mild. The monthly temperature is about 10 -16C in the winter, and ranges between 24C and 35C the rest of the year

  • Government : Taiwan is a multiparty democracy.

  • Work permits and Visas:

  • Banking and Currency: Taiwan has international and local banks. The local currency is New Taiwan Dollar (NT$)

• Is it safe to drink the water?
Do not drink tap water; it is not suitable for consumption. Do not use for cleaning teeth or contact lenses or first aid. You should use boiled or filtered water.
